Repair or replace? A simple way to decide
The rule of thumb that saves people money.
The 50% rule, and the age rule
A common guideline: if a repair costs more than about half the price of a comparable new appliance, replacement is usually the better value. Age matters too — a repair on a 3-year-old machine is a different decision than the same repair on a 15-year-old one.
A good provider will give you the honest version of this math rather than pushing the more expensive path.
